Conservatives Secure a Temporary Victory Against Green New Deal Agenda in West Virginia

Charleston, WV – Lame duck Governor Jim Justice has cancelled his plans to call a special session of the Legislature in which he was planning to force a vote on legislation that would have approved millions of dollars in taxpayer funded subsidies for private green energy corporations.

Justice notified House and Senate Leadership of his plans on Wednesday evening. As word began to spread, conservative activists sprang into action to mobilize a grassroots coalition to squash Justice’s corporatist Green New Deal scheme.

American Action Fund launched a statewide petition campaign calling legislators to “Reject Jim Justice’s Green New Deal Agenda!” Additionally West Virginia Constitutional Conservatives launched both a social media campaign and an email campaign mobilizing grassroots conservatives to “Call Governor Justice’s office and tell him to stop wasting taxpayer money on this reckless agenda.”

By late Thursday afternoon, Justice announced he was canceling his call for the special session, claiming there were constitutional concerns regarding whether the newly elected legislators would need to be sworn in before the session could commence.

Thanks to the quick grassroots response in West Virginia, the Governor received immediate pushback from hundreds of conservatives in less than 24 hours demanding that he abandon his Green New Deal agenda.

While conservatives won this round, Justice’s most recent scheme stands as a potent reminder that the political establishment in West Virginia has been cozying to Green New Deal special interest groups, and green energy private corporations.

Defeating the Green New Deal Agenda in West Virginia will undoubtedly be a major battle ground between grassroots conservatives and Green Energy funded establishment politicians in the 2025 legislative session.
